Recruitment

We are now recruiting for our next cadet intake in September 2019. Are you (or someone you know):

  • At least 12 years old
  • In Year 8 at school or above
  • Under 18 years old

Then congratulations - you are eligible to join!

Stage 1

Come on on down to our open session (a bit like school open evenings) to take a look around and see what we have to offer. Normally the session will follow this format:

A welcome from the Officer Commanding 2415 (Penkridge) Squadron

A brief introduction to the organisation, and an outline of the joining process.

Tour of the squadron

A look at our facilities, and also see current cadets as they carry out activities we do day-to-day.

Q&A

A chance for potential cadets and their family members to ask any questions that they have.

Stage 2

The next step is to come down for your first parade night! You'll take part in a range of activities to learn all about the RAF Air Cadets, the Royal Air Force, and lots of life skills as part of your basic training, known as 'First Class Cadet' training. This includes:

  • About the Air Training Corps (ATC)
  • Basic foot drill (marching)
  • About the Royal Air Force
  • A History of Flight
  • Airmanship (knowledge about airports and airfields)
  • Initial Expedition Training (camping and fieldcraft)
  • Radio Communciations
  • Map Reading

Stage 3

In this stage you'll receive your RAF blue uniform - free of charge! There are many different components that make up the uniforms of the ATC, based on that worn by our parent organisation, the Royal Air Force.

Our Uniform Care and Maintenance page explains how to wear, and more importantly look after, your uniform.

Stage 4

Congratulations! By completing the other steps and finishing your training, you will be a fully-fledged member of the Air Training Corps.

After passing your First Class Cadet classification you will be open to the whole range of exciting activities and adventures awaiting you.
